DIY…

stands for “Do It Yourself” projects…..and man it can become addicting!  Since we moved into our house in February, the gears in my head haven’t stopped turning.  With empty walls to be filled and furniture to be purchased, money sure adds up quick!  To save money, I thought, “Why not try to DIY?”  Since I’m so chaotic and busy during the school year, I often come home during the week feeling like I just go through the motions and don’t take time to tap into my creative side.  So, being that it is summer and I actually have TIME to dabble in some home projects, I started with these two little projects!  First up is CAKE POPS.  I wanted to make a festive treat for the Fourth of July weekend and decided to try a new recipe.  These were just the things I was looking for!  Now, I have quite the sweet tooth, but when it comes to cake, I never can seem to finish a big piece due to all of the frosting and sugar.  Well fear no longer because cake pops is the perfect solution…..just enough to satisfy a craving!
They are extremely easy to make and I loved how colorful they turned out.  You can make them in any color you want.  They are perfect for a birthday, holiday, or dessert for a family gathering.  I made them in purple and blue to celebrate a friend’s engagement.  They work for any occasion.  Who knew they had these little guys at Starbucks?!?  If I knew this…..I would definitely be a frequent customer.  I don’t drink coffee, but I certainly love some sweets!
Following cake pops came my second DIY project attempt.  One of the areas in our house that is currently lacking a bit in terms of furniture is our upstairs loft/office.  I’ve been scouring the internet for a desk, but in the meantime, I wanted to try and restore something a bit simpler first.  So, off to Goodwill I went in search of something exciting.  BAM!  First visit and I scored big time.  I picked up this beautiful, antique looking chair for…….wait for it, wait for it………….$4.99.  Yep, that’s it.   Super cheap, right? It looked somewhat like this when I took it home.  The original chair was brown, but the photo shows the black primer on it with the original seat cushion:

Look at those legs!  Aren’t they something?!
Haha……I just fell in love with this chair and knew instantly that I wanted it to accompany my future vintage/antique style desk.
Now, it’s just a matter of time before I find the perfect wingman for this piece!

After I finished this chair, I realized that the new fabric I chose is VERY similar to the original design and I didn’t know it when I bought it ON SALE (50% off) for $4.00 at Joanne Fabrics.
A chair for less than $10 when all was said and done 🙂
