Lately, I find myself thinking, “How many more days until Spring?” Aside from the obvious reason of warmer weather, I look forward to a new season because of all the color that reappears. Winter is just too drab….from the scenery outside to the clothes we wear. It would be an understatement to say that I’m ready for some pops of color!
One specific area that I constantly try to incorporate more bright and bold colors is in my house. Since baby #2 will be arriving in July, we have a new room to prepare. One of the very first things my mind goes to is the color scheme.
Once that has been decided, the rest follows suit!
You’re probably wondering, “What’s with all this color talk?” Well, I’ve been given a fun challenge from a unique company called CHAIRISH.
What a wonderful place for all of you design enthusiasts, DIYers, craft-a-holics, or just someone looking for a great piece of furniture or home decor item from a trusted place! Chairish is an online marketplace that features curator-approved antique and vintage treasures. They make it fun and easy
to buy and sell furniture, home decor, jewelry and accessories.
So, my challenge was to choose a rug from their collection and create a style board around that piece. Hmm…where to begin? It’s really hard to choose a space with so many options. When you’re a dreamer like me, I start to visualize all of the rooms I “WISH” I could design or have in my dream house someday. Quite frankly, the possibilities were endless…..but I had to start somewhere. So, I decided to try create a board for all you parents out there. Don’t we all need some options for a bright and cheerful playroom that kids will love?
I chose this rug for a multitude of reasons. First, I wanted a good mix of both cool and warm colors. I think that the cool colors allow you to bring out a more playful vibe, while the warm colors tend to create a calm and relaxing feel to the room. I also like that this rug is rectangular, as it can be placed in a corner near a storage shelf to create a type of “nook”, for reading, doing arts & crafts, etc.! Lastly, I like that the pattern allows a variety of colors to be added to the room without it looking too busy.
To help you choose appropriate paint colors for the room, I used an awesome website from Sherman Williams Paint called Chip It! You can visit at www.letschipit.com This is such a great resource. All you have to do is upload an image and it will match the colors to your picture as closely as possible! It helps you visualize the room more clearly and understand what hue/tone to go with.

The other board I created lends itself to a more chic & modern office type space. Many of the colors in my home are black, deep red, sandy tan with dark woods. These items would suit our office well…..IF I was to redesign it! But, one can dream in the meantime 🙂 I chose this rug as soon as I saw it. It spoke to me with the unique shape and bold, bursting colors within the linear design. Who wouldn’t love this?
I mean, one can’t go wrong with Missoni.
Once I found a color palette using CHIP IT, it was on to the fun part…finding accessories and furniture! The toughest part for me is narrowing down my options.
I could show you tons and tons of choices, but the board is only so big!
I wanted this space to have a blend of clean, crisp lines along with a sense of
classy elegance. These pieces really stood out in both form and
function (like the amazing book ends you’ll see!)
