Motivation Monday: Happy Day

So, today is National Make Someone Happy Day.  What a GREAT day.
How often do you go about your day thinking of ways
to make SOMEONE ELSE happy?
This morning, my son and I were looking out the window.  I love staring at his face and how it changes as he begins to notice everything outside.  There is a sudden break in monotony as a car zooms by.  A neighbor walks their dog across the street.  The snow covers everything in sight.  He is fascinated by it all.  Me?  Not so much.  Over the past month, all I’ve found myself doing is complaining about the very things that amaze my son…especially the snow.  It has brought nothing but frigidity, runny noses, cabin fever, and an overall feeling of lethargy.  But, it was in this brief and random moment when we were looking out the window that I realized the complaining needs to stop.  I need to shift my focus and concentrate on all the positive things in my life.  One easy way to do this is by finding ways to make someone else happy.
It really doesn’t take much.
Sometimes it’s a simple gesture.  It doesn’t have to cost a lot of money….or any at all.   Rather than finding something to point out that someone is doing wrong….your spouse, coworker, sibling, friend….go out of your way to tell them something they are doing right or that you appreciate.  It can go a long way!   Here are some other simple ways to make someone else happy today.  Do these sound simple….sure.  Can they make someone happy….yes!

*  Write a note.  Tell someone a few reasons why you appreciate
or love them.  It can come at the perfect time!
*  Pay it forward.  A random, unexpected act of kindness to someone who
can’t return the favor will make you smile.
*  Donate.  It’s almost time for spring cleaning!  You all know we have some
goodies that we need to part ways with.
*  Write a good review. Make an online purchase recently?
Let someone know about a positive experience you had with
the item or their service.  Your kind words can have a big impact!
*  Listen.  Rather than trying to offer advice, just make yourself
    available to someone.
*  Pay attention. Get off your phone and look for others in need of help.
Offer your seat to someone on the train or bus.  Let someone go ahead
of you.  Hold the door for people.
*   Wipe off someone’s car.  If you live in Chicago, you all know we certainly
     need it.
*  Say please and thank you.  I know, I know….it seems so obvious and simple.
But, we often forget to say these important words.  It can really change
the way we communicate and make or break someone’s day.
*  Give a compliment.  Make sure it is genuine and from the heart.
    Be intentional.
Whether it be one of these you choose or something different, I hope you go out and find one way to make someone happy today.
Because honestly…..it will make you a whole lot happier too!
