Happy December 1st! Since Thanksgiving is now over, it’s time to shift our focus to the upcoming winter holidays! In a few weeks, kids will be off school. After a few days of being at home, cabin fever may start to set in, so these activities will serve as a great way to keep them busy and entertained!
A few of my fellow blogger friends and I have compiled a list of fun and easy winter activities for kids to complete. They are simple and leave minimal amounts of mess to be cleaned up! Take a few minutes and be sure to click on each link below. Each post will provide more information on how you and your child can create that special project!
These ladies are FABULOUS. Stop on over and check out the adorable activities below and I promise that you will find loads of other
wonderful projects on each of their blogs!

AND to find out a little more details on my special winter project…
One of my all-time favorite winter theme books is Snowmen at Night. If you haven’t yet read this book, it needs to be at the top of your to-do list! When I was teaching 3rd grade, we did an adorable painting project to accompany this story. Each child would create their own imaginative scene that they wished to happen with their snowman in real life. I can’t begin to tell you how amazing they turned out. Some kids created a wedding scene, with a snowman bride and groom. Others created a playground scene with snowmen swinging, going down slides, swinging on the monkey bars, etc. From baking in the kitchen to having a disco dance party, the ideas were endless!
Once you read this story with your kiddo, you can use this FREE TEMPLATE to prompt discussion with your child and allow him/her to create their own nighttime story scene. Whether they decide to add some iridescent glitter, marshmallows, puffy paint, cotton balls, or pom poms,
there are many variations on making this 3D art.
Once the art has been created, you can display their artwork by putting it on a stand on top of their bedroom dresser or a table somewhere to be showcased! To make this easier, you simply use some spray adhesive and apply the template to a piece of foam board. Then, use an exacto knife to cut off the edges. When finished, you can use a plastic easel to put it on display!
While the materials you can use are limitless, I chose to use pom poms that I purchased at Michaels. They can be found in the craft section and have all different shapes, colors, and sizes. For this project, we picked up 5mm white pom poms for the head and 10mm ones for the body. We used glue (preferably Krazy glue) to adhere the pom poms, giving off the 3D effect.
For the stars, we added glittery, gold stickers. For the hat and scarf, we used foam adhesives and ribbon. The best part about this activity is you can print as many pages as your child would like and create different scenes that COULD fit in with the story, if you had been the author of the book.
Some of the ideas that have come about from my students were…..
HAVING A SNOWBALL FIGHT!
BAKING CUPCAKES!
PLAYING SPORTS!
VISITING THE ZOO!
And the ideas go on and on…..
Give your child the opportunity to be creative and really tap into their imaginations. You will be amazed at all of the things they come up with that snowmen do at night! while the rest of the world is sleeping!
